The second instalment was even worse than the first instalment and I honestly don't wanna talk about. I explained my major gripes with the series in my review for book 1, and all there is to add here is that this was even worse than expected:

1) more tits and more asses; the writers of these series don't seem to realise that we are in a fucking WAR ZONE with a raging war at our doorstep, for some reason all the female characters have nothing better to do that run around in a thong ... can't relat

2) the writing was goddamn awful: "She didn't cry. Angels don't cry." WHAT IS THIS??? A RUPI KAUR POEM?

3) the whole plot line was so fucking predictable and it made me mad because of how bad it was; it made no damn sense for Full Metal Bitch (yes, that's the girl's name) to fall in love with Keiji since she only knew him FOR A SINGLE DAY ... and somehow they still ended up fucking?? and the writers truly expected me to feel for that big Romeo and Juliet plot twist at the end?? No, hun. I wanted both of them to die and that's just the tea.

4) So at the end of the day, I'm just left wondering what the purpose of this clusterfuck was? The world building was lacklustre, there was no bigger meaning behind the plot and all of the characters were just laughable. I wish I could say I was entertained by the stupidity, but no, I want my brain cells back.

The second volume of All You Need is Kill is even better than the first!

Rita Vratasky, another time looper like Kieji was exposed to the Mimic's time signals. This is Rita's story and character development is quite amazing.

The plot is a bit complex as compared to the Movie The Edge of Tomorrow which is based on Vol 1 & 2, however it's convincing and lot better.

Again, Book wins over Movie! The ending was quite different too & the dialogues between Rita & Keiji were even better!

Loved it absolutely! However, the artwork was a bit confusing sometimes, finding the head or tail took some effort. Also, All you Need is kill doesn't sound too catchy, they could have come up with something better!

I'd recommend to watch the movie as well as to read All you Need is kill.

To coincide with the release of the movie Edge of Tomorrow, Viz Media, a major US publisher and translator of Japanese media works for the American market, decided to release the manga adaptation of Edge's source material. Based on the light novel All You Need Is Kill, this is a much more faithful rendering of the original work than the movie is. Not that this is bad, but just how it is. Based on the light novel All You Need Is Kill, this is a much more faithful rendering of the original work than the movie is. Not that this is bad, but just how it is. Sometimes to change media, elements of a story must chance, I suppose.

Anyways, the basic story is about a Japanese private named Keiji Kiriya, who serves in the in the UDF (United Defense Force) which combines the military forces the world over in a battle to defeat aliens called "mimics". Said aliens are intent on changing the eco-system in such a way that will wipe out all life on earth forever. Think of the premise of the recent Man of Steel film, but with greasy poison exuded by biological agents instead of a machine.

Something happens in a battle where Keiji dies, and he wakes up to repeat the day over and over again. Eventually he meets the best soldier on the planet, US Spec Ops member Rita Vrataski, called the Valkyrie and the Full-Metal Bitch. Having gone through loops herself before, she can guide Keiji out of his predicament and perhaps save the world. But the price may be tragically high...

The thing I liked best about this was that they portrayed the characters as they were described in the book. Yes, Rita is pretty, so far as it goes, but not extraordinarily so. She is slight, tiny, and determined. Not a super-model body like Emily Blunt (who portrays Rita in the film) in Edge.

Some elements were dropped or made more concise to accomodate the comic adaptation (in two volumes) of Kill, but overall the comic was faithful in tone, charcterization, and the ending wasn't made happier at all, like in the movie. Yes, it is suggested that humanity may know how to win now, but we can only assume and hope for the characters. It is a melancholy ending, but still hopeful and fitting, one that the film should have kept.

A great manga adaptation, and one I highly Recommend.

I read through this in like 2 hours. It's a very good follow up to part 1.

All You Need Is Kill is extremely entertaining and it keeps you thrilled from first page to last. It's science-fiction but more fiction than science I guess. It introduces very clever and interesting concepts regarding time loops, time travel and evolution (if you look closer).

The way of telling the story is very nice, from different perspectives and rationing the pieces of information smartly. And the art is just astounding, SUPER dynamic. AYNIK sometimes falls into stereotypical backstories and personality traits but that's not necessarily bad, but helps convey the message more easily.

There's not much more to say without spoiling it, but I can safely say that besides being frenetic, interesting and action-packed, it's also a beautiful story about bonds and humanity as a whole. And it empowers women! Like literally, giving them 250kg axes!

I would not say All You Need Is Kill is a sci-fi masterpiece or that it tries to be extremely trascendental, but it's entertaining, clever and cute and it's very well worth the read. If manga is not your cup of tea, don't worry, you'll like this one (I'm not a manga reader either). If you're still reluctant, you can always give the original novel of the same name a go. Or if you DON'T READ at all (and I don't understand why you would be on this social medium) you can watch the 2014 film based on the book, Edge of Tomorrow featuring TOM CRUISE as Keiji Kiriya. Or whatever name they gave the protagonist, since it seems they whitewashed all the characters.

oh my god, that ending, I never tough it will end like that.

now I really liked the story, it was so cool, it had lots of things anguish, drama, romance and war, it was a perfect change of pace for me and since I loved the edge of tomorrow that was inspire by the graphic novel just like the manga, it was like wao just adore it.

I don't want to give away the ending so all I will say it's that if you like edgy readings this one is definitely for you.

I love Rita! She's such a super cool and tough heroine. Overall, the story is more complex and the character development is well-handled compared to the movie. However, I think I'll never get over that ending, (view spoiler)[which is the exact opposite from the movie. (hide spoiler)] I don't mind, though. I can't think of any better ending to the story. If you love Edge of Tomorrow, please consider to read this manga series which the movie is based on.

Apart from the fact that I don't really understand manga culture, this was a good book.
Keiji seemed to accept his fate too fast for me though, i don't remember if the original book (English version) was like that.
Well, I have also started the colored graphic novel, so I may do some comparison.
I felt really bad when the way Keiji handled the cook. Until I thought about it.

Honestly, I read this series because I kept getting recommendations for it so I wanted to see if it was good enough for me to have to see it in my recommendations for years now. All in all, it was a pretty good series! I'm not a particularly huge fan of war-themed series, but I love a good time-loop/time-travel series so I definitely enjoyed that aspect of the series. I really enjoyed the story itself and of course, the art is by Takeshi Obata and that was absolutely phenomenal. I didn't like the end and the movie explored it better. But otherwise it was great. Loved Rita's backstory, I think the movie had missed that, don't remember.

I enjoyed this volume more than the first one. At first I did not think it would be that way but the love story made it so much better in my opinion. It really gave the story a humane way to approach the futuristic setting since love has no boundaries. Its unfortunate that its such a short manga but it is totally worth it.😍

The characters - Rita (not sure how to spell) is given a cliche background, that is to avenge her parents. But no one knows her real name, that's something different. Keiji can be quite funny and quirky when he interacts with Rita. I would want more of Keiji's background, even though I like him, there's a barrier between me as a reader and Keiji, too bad.

The plot - That plot twist though! I knew something would happen, who knows that one of them must die to escape from the cycle. I felt a bit teary, awwwwh, I was rooting for them!!!! They were compatible with each other. The pace of this volume is a bit slow at the beginning, but the second half is better and full of action, that epic fight is great! The eating plum contest between Rita and Keiji is one of the best thing happened in it, this lightened up the mood of the manga a lot!
The art style is just pure awesomeness, am a fan right now! I'm reading another new series, Platinum end, by the power duo (Death Note), and their art work really improve a lot! Love it!

The ending felt a tad bit rush, but I like the part when Keiji drank that coffee, so sad... but he need to stay alive to save the humanity, oh well.... the effect of war and loneliness! Just wanna hug both them!! Overall, I gave these both manga a 4.5 star! I might watch the movie soon, but I hate Tom Cruise! Hahah!

Cmon you'rein the middle of a fucking war, shouldn't you atleast be ready enough to move out immediately if the enemy does a surprise attack. Which they did btw. And they were immediately dressed as soon as they were attacked. Like those mimics were like yeah guys go dress up we will wait for you till then.

I really loved this! It's only my second attempt at trying to read manga (the first time didn't really hook me), but I was surprised by how easily I was gripped by the story and carried along. I would definitely recommend this to people who are interested in the story. It's different than the film, and I would argue that the manga has stronger story elements than the movie. Novel idea to reverse the perspective, but I feel Rita's storyline wasn't as well-fleshed out as Kirya's. I loved when the storylines converged in this one though. The final 'twist' was a good dramatic idea in theory, but it felt totally out of left field the way they presented it. I wish it were a more compelling moment, because the aftermath is actually quite affecting. The artwork, as in the first volume, is quite sharp and very expressive. Not a huge fan of the monster design though. I'm interested to read the original book.

Because I read this entirely in Japanese, I will now describe the story, as far as I understood it:

========== SPOILERS FOLLOW (maybe) ==========

We start out this time following Rita, who as a teenager lives on a farm somewhere in middle America. She doesn't have much interest in the military until her family is killed right in front of her. I enjoyed this part, seeing the author and artist's approximation of typical rural American life. Especially because I've never lived in rural America either, so I don't really know what's completely accurate either.

Anyway, when Rita's dad is killed, she joins the Earth Defense Force, or whatever they're called in English. She starts looping when doing a tour somewhere in the US (maybe Florida? I can't remember). But she discovers during her loops that it's possible to kill the 'server' Gitai monster, along with a 'backup' and 'antenna' and stop the looping.

So she escapes the loop and is highly decorated. The army runs tests on her, and if I understood correctly, it's to find out how the looping worked. If this is the case, it opens a lot of plot holes (how could she prove it?), but I'll chalk that up to me missing something important or other and move on.

Later, she's stationed in Japan. The memory of a guy from her old unit haunts her, because she didn't save him before the loop ended. Now she meets Kirya, and things get really interesting. The scenes with them exploring each others' ideas and conceptions of reality are really good. They team up and become completely unstoppable against the Gitai. They destroy the Server Gitai in Japan with ease and stop the looping again.

Then, there's a really nice section where they just enjoy their time together and goof off. But when everything seems solved, the Gitai mount a massive attack on the Japanese base, and it's time for a final battle.

Kirya and Rita get in their suits and start massacring the Gitai again, but out of nowhere when they're about to kill the server, Rita begins attacking Kirya. She figures that the capacity for the looping might go both ways (if I understood correctly), so as long as she or Kirya is alive, the aliens can come back, because they act as a server for the aliens. Whatever the reason, it means they have to have a fight to the death. This scene was very poorly set up in my opinion- it was a total out-of-character moment for Rita to turn like that without explaining. But anyway, Kirya strikes the mortal blow and there's a really sad scene where Rita says her final words. Then Kirya is a hero, and he decides to paint his mech the color of the blue sky, since Rita hated the red sky which was rising when she died. (I'm not sure what he'll need the mech for now, but whatever.)

All in all, I felt I understood most of what happened, but there were definitely a few plot points that I couldn't make heads or tails of. Interested to read the original book it's based on for sure.

Rita soon finds herself in the time loop and decides to make the best of the situation - repeating the loop and advancing as much as possible in her fight against the Mimics. Loop makes her a living legend.

Keiji will finally seek her as an ultimate master to learn from. And what he learns will shock him - time loop that keeps him repeating the same day over and over again is actually Mimic's weapon that allows them to win through constant repetition in case they encounter stubborn opposition. Rita's experience helps identify the Mimic that causes the temporal disturbance - very soon Keiji and Rita concentrate on finding and destroying this unit - in lack of better expression - so that Mimic offensive can be stopped.

Of course this type of fighting takes its toll - both Rita and Keiji will soon find out that the only way they can live is through warfare. There is no back to past life after never-ending resurrection cycles.

And when the story ends (wont ruin this for you) Keiji needs to carry on the torch - war with Mimics is not won, it is only that the offensive is stopped at least for a while, humanities only hope are warriors that can use time loop so they become more effective against the aliens.

Art is as it was in vol 1 - very good. Again, lankiness of the characters is somewhat funny to me but OK, it is author's style. As for the women presentation I truly liked some of the reviews :) this is manga and women are always shown as voluptuous (see relatively realistic Crying Freeman art, Golgo 13, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed and Battle Angel Alita, not to mention plethora of soap opera and romance manga) as much men are presented as strong, athletic types (although rather lanky in some cases). This is comic, entertainment and (same as thrillers in books, TV and movies) goal is to entertain not teach people. As I said in few other places if people look to learn something from comics..... how to say it.... then they are definitely looking at wrong place (even some of the educational channels like Discovery are trash these days and they are considered legit educational materiel).

Highly recommended to all fans of SF action adventure stories.

This was very very surprising. I was expecting for it to be something mediocre since it's a manga with only two volumes. I thought I wouldn't be able to care since I wasn't going to spend a lot of time with the characters and the world. But on the contrary, the mangaka made this story with lots of impactful points that even though it was a short manga with 2 volumes composed of 16 chapters, it definitely delivered the type of storytelling that larger mangas are striving for.

This was very dynamic. It didn't just stay on the hyped battles but it also provided the reader with lots of context to the effects of war that made the scenes subtle & emotional yet engrossing. It was emotionally complex and this manga perfected how Time Paradoxes can be a double-edged sword.

This finale was very intense and it didn't waste the reader's attention. With great artwork and a powerful story, I can finally understand why All You Need is Kill is always on people's recommendation lists. I've seen the movie adaptation The Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise & Emily Blunt and I can honestly say that I enjoyed the movie but it lacked the kind of emotions that this manga perfectly conveyed.

Overall, this was a great experience and I highly recommend it to everyone.
